San Felipe, March 10th, 2025

t is currently friday as I am writing this, and I am on a random bus in the middle of nowhere traveling the Chilean countryside. The sun is just starting to set behind the massive rolling hills. To my left there is a huge dried up river bank with a stream of water down the middle. Oh nevermind, I just turned. Oh turned again.. and now the river is back on the left haha. I now am realizing that on Monday when you are all reading this those moments will have long passed, but oh well just accept my commentary. Anyways back to where I'm at. I'm in the middle of a bus ride from a little town called Putaendo to another bit bigger town called San Felipe. The river on my left and farmers crops and deserty patches to my right. The massive hills here are all brown with little green bushes covering it like freckles. In the distance you can see that I am surrounded by mountains. But as of yet, I still haven't seen any mountain that come close to the magnificence of the Rockies. The Rockies is just built different I guess.

So you may be wondering, "but Elder Spencer, didn't you just move areas within the big city Santiago?" Yes, yes I did. But then 3 days later I got moved again. Out to the area of San Felipe. It's about 2 hours outside of Santiago. It feels so weird honestly being out here. For the past all of my time in Chile, I've been in the city. *pauses to take a photo of me crossing the river to my left, and now it is on my right (foto will be placed in the email)*. I've only ever been in the city, in different parts of course, and each one was different... but they all had the same things in common: bad smells, super bad air quality, trash everywhere, lots of thugs, drugs, bugs and other things that rhyme, and much more. But out here in San Felipenits way different. To make some comparisons it's like going from downtown edmonton (but less nice), to Fort Saskatchewan (but less nice). Actually it gives me a lot of Sheridan Wyoming vibes, or Lethbridge vibes but in the west side years ago as they were expanding. *I'm leaving the bus now, I'll probably finish this email on Sunday or Monday at the last minute posible*

*Monday* Anyways I like this new area a lot, it's very pretty, the ward is great. There are 8 of us in this district, 6 of which are sister missionaries. It's the first time in my mission I've had a district like this, we will see how it goes.

This week we were able to find some awesome people, and we had lots of lessons. The air here is so fresh! The streets are clean! And that makes me happy haha.

Spiritual thought: This is from the baptismal interview which you can find in Preach My Gospel chapter 12. It is question number 7 and it is talking about the baptismal covenant!

1. Be willing to take upon yourself the name of Christ

2. Serve others

3. Stand as a witness of God at all times

4. Keep His commandments throughout your life

I've been reflecting on these covenants for the past little while as I've had the opportunity to interview people and teach people about these covenants. I'd like to invite those that have been baptized to study about these covenants and learn more on how to fulfill them each day, and for those that haven't been baptized to ask God and question yourself to know if you need to make these covenants in your life!

Love you all! Elder Spencer
