Elder Stevenson, June 16th, 2025

This has been one of the most spiritual weeks of my entire life for sure, hands down. Big claim, eh? But asΓ es.

Brief recap because it's late

- it rained a lot this week and the temperatures were around 5 all week. All the hills and mountains surrounding us are covered in snow now and it's incredible!

- we had interviews with our president this week. It was one of the best ones yet, I know I pretty much say that everything but this one was different.

- then three of our friends accepted baptismal dates. Please pray for Hugo, Amandita, Celeni, and also for Valeria. Those were miraculous moments.

- then on Saturday we had to wake up bright and early at 4am to go to a mission wide conference. This was the crowning moment of the week for sure. Our mission got visited by an apostle of the Lord. There are only 15 in the world. Elder Gary E. Stevenson visited us. It was rather hot in the room where we were all gathered, my eyes couldn't stop sweating the whole time. The spirit was very strong in the room. After it ended I had zero desire to talk to anyone, just sit there and feel connected to God. He blessed us that the Lord will consecrate our afflictions for our gain. I testify that God has living prophets and apostles on the earth today.

- then after that meeting we went to the stake center and watched a nation wide church celebration which was absolutely amazing!

Spiritual thought: Elder Stevenson brought this up, 1 Nephi 1:1

"1 I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God."

This life isn't meant to be easy, the prophet Nephi saw many afflictions in the course of his days but nevertheless saw the steady hand of the Lord throughout. We can trust God that we aren't alone in our trials, that each part is necessary, that hopefully we can look to God during our trials and cling onto Him.

Challenge of the week: say a prayer and ask God "who do I need to contact today?" "Who needs me?" I promise you God will reveal it unto you and you will bless the life of someone.

Love you all!!

A Great Week! June 9th, 2025

It was another really fast week. I blinked and I only have about 4 weeks left. But a lot happened so I actually have interesting stories to write about. It's kinda long but worthwhile if you decide to stick around.

Tuesday highlights

🌿- went to a lesson with our boy Richard who lives out in the countryside on the side of a hill. And we arrived, he let us in and proceeded to show us his harvest. He pulled out a plastic bag with some crushed up green leaves, pulled out a piece of paper and rolled up some of his Mary Jane and asked if I wanted a puff. I politely declined to which he asked if I wanted to try some of this other plant that he had growing with the promise that I'd feel out of this world. Then he cautioned me that it was strong and that even he was hesitant to try it haha. I also declined, shared a scripture and left. I don't think we will return to visit Richard anytime soon.

🌊- then we visited Amanda and her family, I asked if she'd be at all interested in baptism or her children and she said yes! But that she knows she has to get married first, but that her children can get baptized if they want to!

πŸ‘¨πŸ»‍🍳- then we had and awesome family home evening with my boy Anthony, his family, and the hermanas. We ate Venezuelan arepasπŸ˜‹ and chicha, a drink made out of noodles.

Wednesday

🚎- in the morning we did the bus strat, and ended up going over a bridge and into a town we never encountered before. Only one person of the bajillion houses we knocked was interested.

πŸ‘₯️- then in the afternoon we went around visiting members with the misioneras to get to know them more and boost the member-missionary relation.

Thursday

πŸ•- it was a disheartening day. No one wanted to listen. But then I said a prayer in my heart and we found three people, then we went and had a couple fuego lessons, finally were able to contact a friend that had been really sick, and then went and ordered pizza with a member named Memo.

Friday

πŸ˜‡- this was my last zone conference of my mission, still doesn't feel real. But it was a banger. Top 3 zone conferences I've been to for sure. Why was it so good you may ask? Because it was very spiritually uplifting. Beautiful messages, wonderful analogies, a lovely musical number, watched a clip from Kung Fu Panda 1, the food was alright, I got to see some missionary friends, I received lots of personal revelation, and I felt the spirit strongly. The main focus was on Chapter 6 of Preach My Gospel: Seek Christlike attributes. It was great! This will be the focus of the mission for my last transfer. I feel like it is perfect for me to have me fully thinking in Christ and how I can become more like Him right before I go home, that way I have a focus for my return.

πŸ₯³- to get to and from zone conferences we have to take a 2 hour van ride through the mountains/countryside/valleys. On the way there we normally sleep as it is very early in the morning, and on the way back we talk and socialize and read scriptures. It's great. There are usually about 10 of us missionaries. But on our way home, literally at the halfway point, our van broke down. Ceased to work. It was pretty much dark ya, and there was about 0 cell signal, except for one hermana that was doing duolingo, in hindsight I don't know why we didn't ask to use her phone to call someone. But luckily there was another van carrying 8 other missionaries that passed by us and stopped. After about 20min of trying to fix the van on the side of the highway, they decided to put all 18 of us missionaries, 10 Elderes y 8 Hermanas, into one van that had 11 seats including the driver. On top of that each of us had our bags and stuff from the zone conference. It was two big messy dog pile, actually the hermanas were well ordered but us elderes.. we were all over the place. So we drove like that for an hour before we started dropping everyone of. We had the whole zone there except for 2 Elders, whom we FaceTimed to include them. Since we joined the other van, everybody in there got dropped off first, so that meant that instead of it being a 2 hour drive in total, it turned into a 3 ½ hour drive. But eh, what a great memory haha.

🎀- then me my comp and the hnas went to the ward activity, which just so happened to be karaoke and completos. W for the completos and I guess karaoke was fun, but I already had a headache from the van ride, even though I took an ibuprofen it didn't help much. I guess what an old Chilean lady once told me is true, ibuprofen is not for headaches, even if it says they are on the packaging jaha. But we sang a couple songs, out of tune from how tired we were but fun nonetheless. My comp, Elder Cruz, absolutely loved it and pulled out energy from who knows where.

Saturday

πŸ₯„- we started off the day with weekly planning as a normal Saturday goes. Then we went and visited some people before lunch with the bishop and his wife. They are a hilarious old couple that both speak really quietly but can hear each other, yet when we talk to then we have to raise our voices. And bishop always eats his chicken with a spoon #legend.

πŸ˜‡- after that we booked it to Putaendo, the little town up north to find and teach some lessons. First we passed by a lovely old lady named Rosa, only had 5min to teach her, so we started teaching about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and about prayer. It ended up beeing a really spiritual 5min. It's a powerful yet very humbling feeling as a missionary when you open your mouth and speak by the power of the Holy Ghost.

πŸ”₯- after Rosa we went to visit an inactive family that me and Elder Luna found way back when. We pull up and the dad (whom we've never met) is chilling in front of a fire, he immediately sees us and welcomes us in. We meet the rest of the family. And it turns out that only 2 children of the family of 6 had gotten baptized years and years ago.

πŸ₯Ί- then we went to a visit with a recent convert and her husband. We only had 20 minutes of time with them before we had to dash back to San felipe for a noche de hogar with Memo our neighbour to make empanadas. But that lesson ended up being an hour. I felt bad for arriving late to Memos but I know God needed me to be with Mercedes and Claudio. Claudio told us his story, and it left me feeling depressed, tears were running down his and my faces. I didn't have any words to say so I just mourned with him that mourned. Normally when someone tells me about their problems and stories, I try to block out the sadness and keep a steady mind to try and be a rock for them. But the spirit whispered to me to let his anguish affect me, that I didn't need to say anything, that it is ok to cry with him. I said a shaky prayer at the end, gave him a big hug, told him that yes God loves him, that I love him, then we left. I can recognize now that I felt the pure love of Christ for him.

πŸ§€- then we came back to San Felipe, apologized to Memo and the hermanas for being an hour late (oops) and grubbed some delicious cheese empanadas

Sunday

πŸ—£- We had stake conference yesterday, it was really good, we had 3 friends watch it and a lot of our recent converts. My mission president and his wife spoke, fire talks. And then the area 70 spoke and wanted to thank all the full time missionaries, so he had us all stand up. Then he told everyone to sit back down but for an Elder Spencer to stay standing and come up to the pulpit as he is finishing his mission. So I started the walk, I choose to sit in like the triple overflow so it was a rather long walk. I kept walking and finally arrived and bore my testimony and went down. Then the 70 started to talk about me and my future haha. Here is a translation: "Elder Spencer has had a joyful mission but the joy won't stop here, he will go home and get married (paused to look up at me) you got a girlfriend? He says no! You'll just have to find someone then. But before you know it you'll have one kid, then 2 kids, then 3 kids, and you'll be studying, then 4 kids and more till 7 kids and you'll be working then you'll have grandchildren. There is still a lot more joy to come!" He said some more but that's the just of it. And literally every single person that talked to me after either brought up that the 70 said I'd have 7 kids or that I'm going home. Oof.

🍩- after that we met up as all the missionaries to take a photo with Pres and his wife, then ate donuts. Then some hermanas in my district had a baptism, and we left. The afternoon consisted of lunch, contacts and then we had asado.

Today

😴- had to wake up at 3:30am to drop my comp off at the airport as he is going to argentina for the day, I'm sending the day in a dif Ñrea with a couple Elders.

Spiritual thought: 1 Nephi 17:50

"50 And I said unto them: If God had commanded me to do all things I could do them. If he should command me that I should say unto this water, be thou earth, it should be earth; and if I should say it, it would be done."

An hermana shared this with me in district council on Tuesday and it hit different. Whatever God commands us to do we can have full confidence that we can complete it.

Challenge of the week: How can serve someone this week?

Love you all!!

Cambios, June 2nd, 2025

Buenas tardes everyone!

Well last week Tuesday we received transfer news. But only after our last district council together. It was a rather good council, we went over how the month of May went (really good by the way) and then we talked about our new goals for the month of June. Something I've started to do with them about 3 weeks ago was get them more focused on learning about and obtaining Christlike attributes. Because they all have the basic skills down of doing missionary work down. Like teaching a lesson, doing public contacting, knocking a door, inviting someone to church, sharing a scripture, inviting someone to be baptized, etc. And now I wanted them to improve as people, and what better way to do that then to become more like Christ. It's been working pretty well!

Oh yeah, transfers. My comp, Elder Luna, left and I stayed. He went back to Santiago, he was pretty bummed because he wanted to be in the countryside during the winter. And I received a new comp! Guess where he is from by his name: Alejandro Mateo Cruz. He is from Alaska, but his dad is half Puerto Rican. Also three hermanas left the district. Hna Jonas, hna Gomez and sadly hna Wilson as well. Wilson only had one transfer here so it was a surprise that she left. Shout out to them, they are all wonderful missionaries and friends. We received 3 new hnas as well, hna Rowlings, hna Jenkins and hna Abad. They seem awesome. Oh and another thing about Elder Cruz is that he was just comps with my man Elder Carlson, absolute legend that man.

On Saturday we went out to an area called La VicuΓ±a, about an hour away. And we had lunch with an inactive member, Mario Sepulveda. We got there and it is this house in the midst of a grave of baby olive trees. With orange trees, peach trees, avocado trees, grape vines and more all around as well! And then in a 360 panorama you could see mountains all around us. The only outside noise I heard were cows, horses, birds, and dogs. It appears that anywhere I go in Chile I can't have a break from barking dogs haha. Anyways it was epic because Mario then brought out a pot of meat and we started grilling. It was very peaceful. We connected really goodly, he has about 51 years, yet it felt like I was talking to a long time friend. Even after having met the man that day.

Spiritual thought: DyC 20:22-24

"22 He suffered temptations but gave no heed unto them.

23 He was crucified, died, and rose again the third day;

24 And ascended into heaven, to sit down on the right hand of the Father, to reign with almighty power according to the will of the Father;"

I love Jesus Christ. I can't say it enough. Just that first verse is epic. The Jesus, like all of us, suffered temptations. But unlike us, He gave no heed unto the same things that bring us down everyday. The amazingness of that is amazing! As we become more like Christ and God, the more easy it is for us to pay no heed to temptation.

How can you become more like Christ this week?

Love you all! Elder Spencer

La Ultima Chamba, May 26th, 2025

Buenas tardes!

The past couple weeks have been pretty good! Lots of work and friends progressing! My boy Edison got baptized yesterday! He was so pumped! His 10 yearold cousin that I've never met pulled up to the baptism aand said he wants to be baptized too. We are going to talk to him and his parents tomorrow.

My boy Anthony brought his mom and sister to church that just moved into the neighborhood. They loves it alone! Now his sister, Valeria, wants to get baptized!

We are continuing to take random busses and stopping to get off at random little towns we run into to knock doors. And we continue to have a lot of success doing so. The strat is:

1. Get on a bus

2. As you are driving make sure you are still in your area

3. Look out the window

4. See a place you haven't walked through, hit the bell

5. Get off the bus

6. Start knocking doors

7. Find a bus stop to go back to the main town when you're done

We had some great district councils and zone councils that I had to give presentations and trainings at. Our district is doing so great! We work well together, we are diligent and obedient. 3 months ago I wasn't sure how it was going to go in a district with 6 sister missionaries, but it's been great. Sister missionaries are a lot more focused and spiritual then Elders are. Our district councils have had a lot more participation, a lot more spiritual comments, and a generally better feeling then I've had with other districts.

We get transfer news tomorrow. I really hope I stay here for my last transfer. It is an amazing area. But I'll accept the Lords will cheerfuly if not!

I think that'll be all for my updates!

Alma 5:33-34

"33 Behold, he sendeth an invitation unto all men, for the arms of mercy are extended towards them, and he saith: Repent, and I will receive you.

34 Yea, he saith: Come unto me and ye shall partake of the fruit of the tree of life; yea, ye shall eat and drink of the bread and the waters of life freely;"

What impedes us from accepting the arms of mercy that are extended unto us? What impeds us from coming unto Him and partaking of the fruit and eating the bread and drinking the water of life?

Love you all!! Elder Spencer

Fantastic Week, May 12th, 2025

Hey everybody!

It was a great week this week! Lots of walking, rain storms, and more!

The work is progressing down here, lots of friends learning more about the gospel! It is exciting to see the hand of the Lord in EVERY single part of the work.

We worked more in the countryside this week, on Thursday we left the house in the morning and didn't get back until night just full sending it in the countryside. It was the rainiest day of the week! It was so much fun! We got kinda muddy as we trekked the hills knocking doors. Ended up finding 6 new people to teach out there. Lots of little miracles.

I'm out of time. But I'll leave you with a scripture to ponder about.
Joshua 1:9
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Love you all!

Elder Spencer

- the one with the family was during an exchange with my zone leader, we programmed some baptisms with the 2 youth for the end of May. Edison and Benjamin

- Countryside pics are from Thursday

- the baptism was from some sister missionaries in the district that I had the pleasure of doing the baptismal interview for the friends. They got baptized in our chapel because theirs doesn't have a baptismal font.

Olives, May 5th, 2025

Hola! Como estan?? Espero que se encuentren super bien!

It was an interesting week. Monday and Tuesday we worked good and strong. But then on Wednesday my comp got sick with el gripe. Basically a bad cold. He was knocked out for a solid 2 and a half days. All work stopped. I tried to call a ton of people and set up lessons etc, but nothing worked. Our house is squeaky clean now, all my shirts and pants are ironed and are now smoother then the lawn after the first blanket of snow. It was a bit frustrating being stuck in the house and the work I was trying to do didn't bare any fruits. But the Lord blessed us. Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday we were able to meet all our goals, on top of getting a service done! We felt blessed.

For the service we harvested olives, we unloaded sacks of potatos from a truck, helped set up for a birthday party, and more! My favourite was harvesting olives, I got to be in nature, the view was breathtaking and I got to watch the sunset well picking olives. My mind went to the olive garden of Gethsemane where Jesus Christ started the Atonement. Dyc 19:18 "Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink." I thought about this as I was amongst the swaying branches of the olive tree, my heart filled with gratitude and awe of the marvelous sacrifice of my Saviour Redeemer. In my time in the mission I have grown closer to Jesus Christ. He is my friend. My teacher. My shepard. He is the way. I testify of this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Challenge of the week: send a message to someone you haven't talked to in a while.

Love you all! Elder Spencer

Zone Conference, April 28th, 2025

It was a very fast and tiring week!

To give a recap...

- we had zone conference, it was epic! I realized it was the last time I would ser some of my friends.

- we were preparing Stefany and Angela for their baptism but they got sick and weren't able to be baptized.

- we are preparing Patricio for his baptism this weekend, he is rather excited and we always have awesome lessons with him.

- we are helping Pastora prepare fir her baptism in a couple weeks, she went to church and loved it. She thought before that she wouldn't be accepted but she felt loves.

- we met an awesome lady and her children. Francia, Esperanza and Fransisco. They have so many wonderful questions. We ended up talking a lot about the plan of Salvation and what it is. They all want to get baptized but can't because the father won't let them.

- we did a ton of service this week which was awesome. We moved a bunch of big rocks around. Tore up a bunch of brush. Cleared out old sheds. Etc. It's been fun.

That's it for the recap!

Spiritual thought: I have been enjoying Psalms in the Bible recently, and one that really stood out to me this week was Psalm 37:23-24

"23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand."

This month was a rather difficult month for us. As a district we started the month with 12 baptismal dates, and only 1 of them got baptized. The moral is low in my district, but I've been helping them pick it up. When we walk the path of the Lord and trust in His timing, we will delight in our way! We may fall, but the Lord will pick us up! He will hold us in His hand. It's the same for when we sin or turn away from God. The Lord will uphold a good man. Let us repent and have faith in the Lamb of God.

Challenge of the week: share a story of one of your ancestors with a friend or family member.

Love you all! Elder Spencer
