Hola Hola Hola! Como están a todos de ustedes? Hoy es un día muy importante. Saben por qué? Por qué es el veintinueve de Noviembre. El día en que yo puedo jugar fútbol!
Anyways this week and a bit was a little strange, here is the breakdown: broken glass, sickness, Rickyyyy, Thanksgiving, service, heat, and an unexpected find.
Broken glass💥: Elder Shell and I were sitting down for a moment to figure out where we were going, when we heard a huge bang and crash. Sounded like a gunshot. And we both whip our heads around and this old lady is on the ground with smashed bottles all around her and three dogs running around. We run over there to see if she's alright and help her up. Good news she was alright. We helped her up and decided to walk her home. We gathered up her dogs and she started walking, not giving a care for the broken bottles in a shredded plastic bag. So we walked her home and quickly found out she was very drunk. Anyways after that we went to go clean up the glass and found her wallet in the plastic bag. So we cleaned up best we could and went back to her house with the wallet.
Sickness🤒🤧: no it wasn't me who was sick. It was Elder Plane poor guy. Literally last week Tuesday he caught something, and his comp said "let's let you rest for a day so you can get better and we can get back to work the next day." The next day came and he was worse. Day after day after day. Night after night of coughing and wheezing and no sleep. No improvement. Until Monday of this week he finally got better enough to leave the house and work. I felt bad for him and his comp. Literally every single chilean lady told him to drink hot honey and lemon juice. So this week was a little weird as his comp was completely healthy. What we did was take shifts of who stayed at home and who went to work. My favourite moments was with Elder Carlson (we both have the same time in the mission and same level of spanish). We have become close friends after these 3 short months so we had some good times doing the Lord's work together. My absolute favourite moment was when he and I went to Rickyyy's
Rickyyy😎: we pulled up at his house at 8pm for an once/noche de hogar. We went in there ready to try our absolute best, make mistakes, and eat some bread! We go up into his house and he asks where the other elders are. And we tell him. And he responds with this'll be interesting, haha. Anyways we ended up talking with him for an hour and shared a message while eating bread with some of the best peach marmalade I've had.
Thanksgiving🦃: Thanksgiving was an absolute feast with a huge fiesta!! Food everywhere with music and dancing!! Jokes. It was a passing comment from our Australian zone leader to a room with 2 Canadians and 3 Americans. He said *say this in your best Australian accent* "oh yeah, isn't it your Thanksgiving right now?" I got a good chuckle out of that.
Service🖌🧱: we used bigger brushes then that little emoji, and we didn't paint a brick wall but a metal fence with bars. It was me, my comp and the zone leaders for most of the job with Plane and Carlson joining us on Monday! It was at a school and on one of the days that we were painting they had a cooking competition and invited us in to eat! We had empanadas, sopipillas, and more! It was so good! We had an enjoyable time roasting in the sun as we painted! Speaking of heat...
Heat🥵🔥☀️: I envy everyone of you who is enjoying colder weather. It's not to hot here, just like 26-30 Celsius for now, but the sun is so so strong. I am constantly sweating. Sweating while walking, talking, eating, sitting, sleeping, standing in front of the fan, sweating before and immediately after a freezing shower, and more. "Oh, is it raining?? Nope it's sweat." I don't think my Canadian body was made for this. I am getting a nice tan though!
Unexpected find😄: Yesterday Elder Shell and I knocked on a door looking for a member of our church. Turns out it was the wrong door, which I actually knew before knocking it but I felt we should knock it anyways. And the door opened and there stood a Haitian lady with small children running about and the tiniest little energetic puppy I ever done see. Anyways we told her who we were and asked if we could share a message with her sometime and her eyes lit up and we set up an appointment! That gave me a boost because this week was slow in the work.
Scripture: Mosiah 18:5 says "Now, there was in Mormon a fountain of pure water, and Alma resorted thither, there being near the water a thicket of small trees, where he did hide himself in the daytime from the searches of the king." Back story about Alma: he was a priest in a wicked kings court. A prophet, Abinidai, was prophesying to the king and the king demanded he be killed. Alma felt compassion and believed the prophet and stood up for him. The king got angry and sent guards to kill him so Alma ran. And then verse 5 happened and tells us he hid himself in a small thicket of trees with a fountain of pure water. At first when I read this I passed over it thinking it was just a part of the story. But I reread it and the part about the pure water stood out to me. Water can also be related to Jesus Christ. So I related it to myself in the sense that I can hide or dwell with Christ to get away from the grips of temptation. I know that when I have turned to Christ, He has given me strength to avoid temptation, to turn away from it and dwell in the peace of Christ. I invite all of you to find peace in Christ, to find your own small forest with a fountain of pure water to go to whenever you feel the hate, desperation, sorrow, falseness, and more of the world.
Question of the week: What is something in your life that you can change to be able to find your own fountain of Christ?
Love you all! Elder Spencer
