It was a normal Thursday morning. The day before we had wonderful interviews with president, we had had lots of good lessons with friends and a lot of completos to eat, like a lot jaja. And back to the Thursday morning we had just finished studying the scriptures and planned our day and we were getting ready to head out and work! Then we smelled something off, we looked all around our house looking for a source. Couldn't find anything. Then the smell of smoke got stronger and we heard sirens in the distance. We looked out of our 19th story window and watched as the fire trucks stopped in front of our building. It was then we could faintly hear the smoke alarm, then we heard banging on our door. It was our neighbour. She told us to knock a couple of the other doors to help her evacuate the people. So as the missionaries that we are, knocked the surrounding doors telling everyone to evacuate. Then we followed them down the stairs. Now the stairs well was full of smoke, so we had to make our way all the way down 19 floors heavily breathing in the smoke as we went down. As we passed by the 4th floor we could see that that's where the fire was. And there were a lot of firefighters around. The firefighters down here are insane, they are just volunteers. There like on call superheros that don't get paid. Just rando people that want to be firefighters on the side. π₯πΏπ
In the end we got out alright, took a minute to clear our lungs and we git headaches. We were able to talk and meet a lot of our neighbours. After a while we were allowed to enter back in. My mission president wanted me to find out what happened just in case they need to move us out of this apartment if it's unsafe. The fire didn't reach our floor, but tons of smoke did, all of our clothes smelled like smoke for days. And parts of the building still smell like smoke.
This week we received a referral from a couple. The man is a member but went inactive a long time ago. But they are wanting to start a family and want to start it in the gospel. And first she needs to know it. It has honestly been such a pleasure teaching her because she has so so many questions. She is hungry for knowledge. Her name is Camila and her partner is Ricardo. They have quickly became good friends. It is refreshing to teach someone that has questions as it shows their desire to learn.
Spiritual thought: Isaiah 43:2-3
"2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour."
Through all of our trials and afflictions, the times that overwhelm us and pursue us, Christ is with us. Because He is our Saviour. I am eternally grateful for this.
Question of the week: What are some of your Christmas holiday traditions?
